About IGCSE English Literature

Detailed Information

About the IGCSE English Literature Exam

IGCSE English Literature is a Cambridge exam examining poetry, prose (novel/short story) and drama works from a literary analysis perspective. Students work in depth on character analysis, theme examination, the author's use of language and the effects of literary techniques on set texts. It is assessed in Paper 1 (drama and prose) and Paper 2 (poetry anthology and unseen poetry) format.

TestPrep's Approach to A* in IGCSE English Literature

In IGCSE English Literature, close reading skills, literary terminology usage (imagery, metaphor, simile, personification, alliteration, enjambment) and the ability to form arguments supported by text evidence are critical for A*. TestPrep English Literature tutors analyze each work's character development, thematic structure and the author's stylistic choices in detail. "PEE" (Point-Evidence-Explain) paragraph structure and comparative text analysis techniques are developed through regular writing practice.

Keeping up with IGCSE / GCSE while school was busy was harder than I expected. One bad mock no longer made me want to drop the whole plan. I stopped choosing answers by feel and started looking for evidence in the passage. A big thank you to my tutor for all the support :)

Over time, IGCSE English Literature became one of the most organized parts of my IGCSE / GCSE preparation. We could make the workload lighter during busy weeks at school or university. I learned not to spend the same amount of time on every line of a long text. After a while, the questions started to feel much more familiar. My mock results gradually became more consistent. A big thank you to my tutor for all the support :)

I was doing questions for IGCSE English Literature on my own but never had a steady routine. The group never had more than six students, so it was easy to stay involved. Discussing why the other choices were wrong helped more than I expected. I stopped doing a huge amount one week and nothing the next. Even in a group lesson, the tutor knew where each of us stood. It was an intense period, but it was worth it.

I was doing questions for IGCSE English Literature on my own but never had a steady routine. Full-length mocks helped me get used to the real exam pace. I learned not to spend the same amount of time on every line of a long text. When I got something wrong, we looked at why I chose that answer instead of only checking the solution. The mocks showed where my time was actually being lost. I'm glad I worked with my tutor through this process.

Everyone recommended different resources and I kept switching between them. My tutor made it easy to ask questions from the first lesson. The group never had more than six students, so it was easy to stay involved. I learned not to spend the same amount of time on every line of a long text. After a while, the questions started to feel much more familiar. Thanks to everyone who supported me.

The feedback I received on IGCSE English Literature was clear and practical. I started tracking the type of mistake, not just the number of questions I completed. I learned not to spend the same amount of time on every line of a long text. I went into the exam much calmer than I would have before. After a while, the questions started to feel much more familiar. Thanks to TestPrep for helping me stay on track.
