Detailed Information

What You Need to Know About UCAT

01

The UCAT Exam and UK Medical School Entry

The UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) is a computer-based aptitude exam used by many medical and dental schools in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand as an admissions criterion. As of 2025 the exam consists of four sections: Verbal Reasoning (22 minutes, 44 questions), Decision Making (37 minutes, 35 questions), Quantitative Reasoning (26 minutes, 36 questions) and Situational Judgement (26 minutes, 69 questions). Abstract Reasoning was removed in 2025; total duration is just under 2 hours.

The three cognitive subtests are scored from 900-2700 combined, with the average typically around 2000; the Situational Judgement section is reported in bands (1-4). A cognitive score of 2100+ creates a competitive profile for applications to the UK's most selective medical schools (Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow, etc.). The exam doesn't test knowledge; instead, it assesses cognitive abilities, problem-solving, data analysis, and ethical decision-making skills.

Progress is measured from individual diagnostics and regular practice tests; outcomes vary by student.

Our son's school schedule was already very busy. Individual lesson time was used around our child's actual needs. Online lessons made it possible to continue without losing time on travel. The tutor supported regular study, not only the lesson content. We thank the tutor and the TestPrep team.

I wasn't starting from zero, but the same mistakes kept showing up in my mocks. It was an intense period, but it was worth it.

RC

Rocio Campos

Seeing several versions of the same topic made unfamiliar questions less stressful. I was really happy with the lessons.

HS

Hyunwoo Sung

As the exam got closer, I wasn't sure what I should actually review. I started noticing the reason for a mistake much faster.

HH

Henrik Horvat

When I started preparing for UCAT, I wasn't sure what order to study things in. It was an intense period, but it was worth it.

BS

Bailey Sanderson

Breaking Verbal Reasoning into smaller pieces worked much better for me. I started tracking the type of mistake, not just the number of questions I completed. Discussing why the other choices were wrong helped more than I expected. I started noticing the reason for a mistake much faster. After a while, the questions started to feel much more familiar. Thank you to the tutor who stayed supportive until the end.
