The ACT (American College Testing) is a standardized exam used for admission to US universities. In the current enhanced format, English, Reading and Math are required, while Science and Writing are optional. The composite score is the average of English, Reading and Math only — Science is not included in the composite. Each section is scored from 1 to 36, and the Math section has 45 questions in 50 minutes.
The ACT is especially advantageous for students who are strong in science and STEM subjects, thanks to the Science Reasoning section. Unlike the SAT, the ACT does not use an adaptive test format — all questions are predetermined. This makes timing strategy and section-based study planning even more critical.
The TestPrep ACT program provides separate strategy and timing plans for each of the four sections. The ACT is a US college-admissions standardized test and an alternative to the SAT. In the current (enhanced) format the required sections are English, Math and Reading; Science and Writing are optional. All US universities accept both ACT and SAT equally.
Each section is scored 1-36. The Composite is the average of the three required sections (English, Math, Reading) on a 1-36 scale; optional Science is reported separately and does not affect the Composite. Top-20 universities typically expect 33-35; T50 schools 30-33.
The required core test is about 2 hours 5 minutes: English 35 min (50 questions), Math 50 min (45 questions), Reading 40 min (36 questions). Optional Science (40 min, 40 questions) and optional Writing (40 min) can be added. The test is computer-based internationally.
No — both are optional in the current format. Science is reported as a separate 1-36 score and does not affect the Composite. Some universities or scholarship programs may still want them, so check each school's policy in advance.
Authorized test centres operate in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir — usually at international schools. The test is offered roughly 7 times a year (Sep, Oct, Dec, Feb, Apr, Jun, Jul).
