About IGCSE Physics

Detailed Information

About the IGCSE Physics Exam

IGCSE Physics is a Cambridge science exam covering mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, and atomic and nuclear physics. Both theoretical knowledge and experimental skills are assessed. Paper 2 (Core MCQ) or Paper 4 (Extended theory), Paper 3 (Core structured) or Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical) contain experiment design and data analysis questions.

TestPrep's Approach to A* in IGCSE Physics

Success in IGCSE Physics requires conceptual understanding and graph interpretation skills beyond formula application. Unit conversions, significant figures and experimental error analysis are practical skills frequently assessed in exams. TestPrep Physics tutors teach strategic approaches for Paper 4 calculation questions and Paper 6 experimental questions. Skills including circuit diagram drawing, graph creation and gradient calculation are reinforced through regular practice.

Quick Answers

  • How is IGCSE Physics structured?

CIE 0625: Paper 2 (MCQ) + Paper 4 (Extended structured) + either Paper 6 (alternative to practical) or Paper 5 (practical lab).

  • How many marks for an A*?

Typically ~85% raw. Examiner reports show students lose most marks on units, formulas and graphical analysis.

  • What math level is needed?

IGCSE Math (Extended) running alongside. Comfort with rearranging formulas, ratio, indices and basic algebra is required.

  • How does it transition into A-Level?

IGCSE Extended is the foundation for A-Level Year 12. Vector/scalar, force and energy concepts carry directly into AS.

Frequently Asked Questions About IGCSE Physics Tutoring

Common questions and answers about IGCSE Physics Tutoring courses and exam preparation.

FAQ

Paper 5 or Paper 6?

Depends on your school's lab facility. Paper 6 (alternative) is more common since no lab is required. Marks are equivalent.

Which formulas are provided?

Some core ones are given; many must be memorized. e.g. v=u+at is provided, P=Fv must be recalled.

Is it enough for STEM ambitions?

IGCSE Physics A* + IGCSE Math A* + IGCSE Additional Math A* is a typical engineering profile. A-Levels are still required.

How much tutoring is needed?

Through Year 10-11, 1-1.5 hrs/week (50-80 hrs total) is typical.

As the exam got closer, I wasn't sure what I should actually review. During the intensive review, we returned to real gaps instead of restarting everything. Separating calculation errors from content gaps made revision more useful. I started tracking the type of mistake, not just the number of questions I completed. Focusing on past papers and mock review worked well near the exam. I was really happy with the lessons.

The plan was adjusted when school exams became busy. Mistakes became something to work on rather than something to feel bad about. We would recommend the program to students and families in a similar situation.

After my first attempt, I wanted the second round of preparation to feel more organized. I started tracking the type of mistake, not just the number of questions I completed. Having the lesson move at my pace made the process feel much easier. I became much more careful with graphs, experiments and data-based questions. I started noticing the reason for a mistake much faster. I'm genuinely thankful to my tutor for being patient.

I was doing questions for IGCSE Physics on my own but never had a steady routine. After enough examples of the same question type, the repeated mistakes decreased. My confidence improved along with the results. It was an intense period, but it was worth it.
