Frequently asked questions
Which version of the TOEFL is the question bank written for?
The TOEFL iBT as ETS relaunched it on 21 January 2026: Reading has 50 items in 30 minutes, Listening 47 in 29 minutes, Writing 12 in 23 minutes and Speaking 11 in 8 minutes. Section and overall scores are on a 1–6 scale; for a two-year transition, the overall score is also reported on the 0–120 scale.
How is it different from the old TOEFL?
The 2026 test has new tasks: Complete the Words and Read in Daily Life in Reading, Listen and Choose a Response and Listen to an Announcement in Listening, and a Speaking section made of Listen and Repeat and Take an Interview. The question bank is written for the new format only.
How do Writing and Speaking questions work?
You work on Build a Sentence, Write an Email and Write for an Academic Discussion in Writing, and on Listen and Repeat and Take an Interview in Speaking. AI scores your answer against ETS's official scoring rubrics and gives you a score estimate. While your access lasts, you get as many AI scorings as the bank has Writing and Speaking questions — enough to have each one scored once. Scores are practice estimates, not official TOEFL scores. Each task also explains what a strong answer includes.
Which plan should I choose?
If your gap is in Reading and Listening, the Reading + Listening plan is enough; if you're working on writing and speaking, Writing + Speaking. If you're preparing all four sections, Full Access is the better fit.
When does my access start, and when does it expire?
You pay once. The 4 months start on the day the question bank opens on your account, and nothing renews automatically. When they end, access closes; you can buy again if you want to keep going.
