What's in the question bank

You choose the topic and the difficulty; every question comes with an explanation and every session with a report.

  • Listening

All four parts and the official question types: Multiple Choice, Matching, Plan/Map/Diagram Labelling, Form/Note/Table/Flow-chart Completion, Sentence Completion and Short-answer Questions.

  • Reading

Academic passages with True/False/Not Given, Yes/No/Not Given, Matching Headings, Matching Information, Summary Completion and the other official question types.

  • Writing

Task 1 (describing a graph, table or process) and Task 2 (the essay). Your answer gets an AI practice estimate against the IELTS band descriptors, and each question explains what a strong answer includes.

  • Speaking

Part 1, Part 2 (the long turn) and Part 3 questions. Your recorded answer gets an AI practice estimate against the IELTS band descriptors, and each question explains what a strong answer includes.

  • Explained answers

For every Listening and Reading question you see where in the recording or passage the right answer comes from.

  • Performance reports

At the end of each session you see your results broken down by section, question type and difficulty.

Work through the IELTS question bank in four steps

  1. Pick a section

Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking: choose one of the sections in your plan.

  2. Set type and difficulty

Choose the question or task type you want to work on and how hard it should be.

  3. Practise timed or untimed

Answer questions in the exam's own format, at the section's own timing if you like.

  4. Review and close the gap

Read the explanations and your session report, then choose the next question type.

Frequently asked questions

Which test is the question bank written for?

IELTS Academic: Listening takes about 30 minutes, with 4 parts and 40 questions; Reading 60 minutes, with 3 passages and 40 questions; Writing 60 minutes and 2 tasks (Task 1 and Task 2); Speaking 11–14 minutes in 3 parts. The whole test takes 2 hours 45 minutes.

How do Writing and Speaking questions work?

You work on Writing Task 1 and Task 2, and on Speaking Parts 1, 2 and 3. AI scores your answer against IELTS's official band descriptors and gives you a band estimate. While your access lasts, you get as many AI scorings as the bank has Writing and Speaking questions — enough to have each one scored once. Scores are practice estimates, not official bands. Each question also explains what a strong answer includes.

Which plan should I choose?

If your gap is in Listening and Reading, the Listening + Reading plan is enough; if you're working on writing and speaking, Writing + Speaking. If you're preparing all four sections, Full Access is the better fit.

I'm taking General Training. Is it still useful?

The question bank follows IELTS Academic. Listening and Speaking are the same in both modules; Reading and Writing are specific to Academic.

When does my access start, and when does it expire?

You pay once. The 4 months start on the day the question bank opens on your account, and nothing renews automatically. When they end, access closes; you can buy again if you want to keep going.

Start with the question type that's costing you band score

Pick your plan, see which question types in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking hold you back, and work on those.
