About AP Computer Science Principles

Detailed Information

About the AP Computer Science Principles Exam

AP Computer Science Principles is a broad exam covering computational thinking, data analysis, algorithm design, programming, internet security and the societal impacts of computing. The exam consists of 70 MCQs and two performance tasks (Create Performance Task). Unlike Computer Science A, this exam is programming language-agnostic.

TestPrep Strategy for Scoring 5 on AP Computer Science Principles

In AP CSP, the Create Performance Task requires students to independently develop a program and document the process. TestPrep CSP tutors provide one-on-one guidance on data abstraction, algorithmic efficiency and project documentation. Exam topics such as cybersecurity, data privacy and digital ethics are covered with current examples. Adapted lesson plans are available for both students with no programming experience and advanced students.

The feedback I received on AP Computer Science Principles was clear and practical. When I got something wrong, we looked at why I chose that answer instead of only checking the solution. My written code answers became much more organized. My confidence improved along with the results. I started noticing the reason for a mistake much faster. Thanks to TestPrep for helping me stay on track.

The lessons where I found the bug myself were the ones I remembered best. It was an intense period, but it was worth it.

  • Bianca Donati

    5/5

What annoyed me most was losing easy points because I rushed. I went into the exam much calmer than I would have before.

  • Connor Hartley

    5/5

I was doing questions for AP Computer Science Principles on my own but never had a steady routine. We didn't spend extra time on things I already knew. Predicting the output helped me catch small logic errors. My tutor usually asked me to explain my thinking before stepping in. Lesson times could fit around school, university or work. It was an intense period, but it was worth it.

Everyone recommended different resources and I kept switching between them. Having the lesson move at my pace made the process feel much easier. I started tracing code line by line instead of only reading it quickly. We could make the workload lighter during busy weeks at school or university. My tutor could see my reasoning and usually found the source of an error quickly. It was an intense period, but it was worth it.

My written code answers became much more organized. I wasn't trying to learn new topics at the very last minute. I went into the exam much calmer than I would have before. I was really happy with the lessons.

Anxiety became more visible as the exam got closer. Mistakes became something to work on rather than something to feel bad about. We were pleased with the support we received.
