About A-Level Art and Design

01

About the A-Level Art and Design Exam

A-Level Art and Design is a creative exam consisting of artistic skill development, critical and contextual study, portfolio creation and final piece (externally set assignment) components. In the CIE syllabus, Component 1 (portfolio) and Component 2 (externally set assignment) are assessed; Edexcel follows a similar structure. Different mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, digital art and three-dimensional work may be used.

02

The Path to A* in A-Level Art and Design

In A-Level Art and Design, the portfolio must show a consistent artistic journey and the final piece must be based on strong conceptual foundations for A*. TestPrep Art and Design tutors provide one-on-one guidance on artistic research methodology, experimentation process and reflective annotation writing. Theme development, medium diversity and artistic intention statement writing skills are systematically practiced in portfolio structuring.
