Detailed Information
Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a core component of the IB Diploma Programme that examines how we know what we know and the nature of knowledge. Areas of knowledge (Natural Sciences, Human Sciences, Mathematics, History, The Arts) and ways of knowing (reason, emotion, language, sense perception, intuition, imagination, faith, memory) are explored through a critical lens. TOK contributes to the Diploma alongside the Extended Essay through the matrix scoring system.
The TOK assessment consists of a TOK Essay (1,600 words on a prescribed title) and a TOK Exhibition (three objects connected to a prompt). TestPrep TOK tutors guide students in understanding knowledge questions (KQs), using real-life examples effectively and building multi-layered arguments. For the exhibition, support is provided in connecting objects to knowledge themes and writing commentary that demonstrates genuine personal engagement.
Core topics include Areas of knowledge, Themes of knowledge and Exhibition; HL covers the SL core plus extra depth and an additional paper.
We combine concise topic notes, conceptual questions and past-paper practice, with a weekly error-log review.
It depends on the target grade and starting level; typically 1-2 hours of tutoring per week plus 3-5 hours of independent work.
No. The IB publishes one subject guide for every school worldwide, so paper structure and weightings are fixed; only the grade boundaries move each session. HL and SL sit different papers.
An externally assessed essay on one of six titles released by the IB for the session
Three objects and a written commentary linking them to an IA prompt
Graded A-E; together with the extended essay it contributes up to 3 points to the diploma total
IB subjects are graded 1-7. The IB is the only awarding body for the Diploma Programme, so this structure is the same in every school; HL and SL sit different papers and the per-component weightings are set by the current subject guide.
