IB Mathematics Analysis and Approaches (AA) is a rigorous Group 5 course focused on developing algebraic skills and mathematical thinking. Functions, calculus, trigonometry, complex numbers and proof techniques form the core syllabus. HL students additionally study advanced calculus (differential equations, Maclaurin series), linear algebra fundamentals and advanced probability distributions.
Paper 1 (no calculator) tests pure mathematical skills while Paper 2 (with calculator) focuses on applied problems. Paper 3 (HL only) is a problem-solving paper examining a single topic in depth. For IA (Mathematical Exploration), guidance is provided from topic selection to mathematical analysis, modeling and academic writing.
