IB Psychology is a Group 3 course that systematically examines human behavior and mental processes. The biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches form the three core topics. HL students additionally study abnormal psychology in depth and choose a fourth approach (developmental, health psychology, psychology of human relationships). Research methodology knowledge and ethical evaluation skills are assessed throughout the course.

In IB Psychology exams, Paper 1 covers the three core approaches, Paper 2 covers option topics and Paper 3 (HL) tests research methodology. Success requires knowledge of key studies, evaluation skills and the ability to write analytical essays supported by research evidence.
